Frank Prosnitz, a veteran journalist who has worked for both the Providence Journal and Providence Business News, has joined WhatsUpRhodeIsland as its news editor.
He was a reporter and bureau manager for the Providence Journal for some 14 years, and was editor of the Providence Business News for a decade. He began his journalism career as a sports writer at the Asbury Park (NJ) Press and moved to the (Woodbridge, NJ) News Tribune to cover news. Currently, he hosts radio shows on WADK in Newport, WBLQ in Westerly, and WOON in Woonsocket.
During his tenure at Providence Business News he twice won Best in Business Awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW), was twice selected Media Advocate of the Year by the Rhode Island office of the Small Business Administration, won an investigative reporting award from the New England Press Association, and writing award from the Rhode Island Press Association. While editor of the Providence Business News, the newspaper was recognized by SABEW as among the best business weeklies in North America.
“No longer can we call it a trend for news gathering organizations to move to digital, it is the current reality,” Prosnitz said. “Print, particularly on a national level, is experiencing a resurgence of sorts because of the drama in Washington, but that resurgence is also about digital editions.
“But while delivery of the news may be changing, the collection of news should not,” Prosnitz said. “We will continue to strive to honor the profession of journalism by covering all aspects of the news. As we grow, we expect our capabilities will also grow.”
