The Rare Occasions Release New Music Video for “Notion” and Announce Tour Dates

Being dragged into joining a cult can be a horrifying experience. There are weird rituals, pointless chanting and one guy with a messiah complex leading the whole thing. The Rare Occasions capture that situation with their new music video for the track “Notion” off of their latest EP Futureproof that came out in August of 2016. Directed by Mike Levinsohn, the visuals are poignant while capturing numerous moments with perfect angles provided by the camera. On top of the release of the new video, the band is also on a Northeast tour in August.

“I first met Mike Levinsohn through the BU music scene, and over the years Mike and I have collaborated on various musical projects, “says frontman Brian McLaughlin on the making of the video. “More recently, Mike has developed as a serious film director. A few months ago, Mike saw that our track “Notion” was playing well on Spotify, and he called me with this incredible vision for a music video. The band really took to the idea since the visuals emphasized the darker elements of the song’s lyrics.”

“We were able to help by rounding up some extras for the cult church scene”, McLaughlin mentions. “It was filmed at an American Legion in Pawtucket, we wanted the video to be shot in Rhode Island and Boston, and worked with Mike on finding the best spots. Friends, family, and fans from all over RI came out to help shoot that scene. We were in Los Angeles at the time of the shoot, and it was a strange experience coordinating everything from the other side of the country including, of course, the pizza delivery.”

McLaughlin is always thankful for the support the band receives with every endeavor they embark on. “That scene in particular features many of our close family members, so for us it was very cool and surreal to see the people we love on camera pretending to be cult worshipers. The support we receive from our friends, family, and fans truly amazes me.”
