Outstanding songwriting, warm harmonies and accomplished musicianship took center stage at POP Providence Friday night where folk singer Johnny Irion and indie-pop group Autumn Defense appeared. An appreciative crowd greeted the artists, who responded in kind, with popular favorites as well as a few lesser known gems.

Autumn Defense, led by Pat Sansone and John Stirrat, is a side project of the groundbreaking Chicago alt-rock band Wilco. Irion is folk royalty, married to (and musical partner with) Sara Lee Guthrie, granddaughter of Woody Guthrie, and daughter of Arlo. Both acts brought their “A” game to a beautiful summer evening.
