“Six Picks” is our weekly column where we seek out some of the best in area music. This week we feature a couple of important local fundraisers along with an eclectic mix of music from folk to funk.

Keri Powers Friday at Hope and Main (Warren)

Keri Powers is a Connecticut based singer-songwriter who rides that road where roots, country and blues meet. Her recent album Starseed, released last May, is gentle guitar driven ramble with 8 originals and a couple of well chosen covers. Check out her show Friday at Common Fence Music held at Hope & Main, 691 Main Street, in Warren. Providence based Singer-songwriter Steve Delmonico of The Quahogs opens. Details here. 

Tune In Tune Up at Sunday at The Met (Pawtucket) 

We previewed the Tune In & Tune Up concert last week here. The organization provides health care services and awareness to musicians and other performers. The afternoon show features a slew of RI music legends including John Cafferty, Mark Cutler, Kim Trusty and James Montgomery. The health fair with over 30 vendors begins at 1PM, music runs from 2-7. Sonny Landreth Saturday at Narrows Center (Fall River)

Sonny Landreth is one of the top guitarists in the world and he’s paying a visit to the Narrows Center Saturday night. Guitar freaks won’t want to miss the Louisiana native who’s a favorite of Eric Clapton and has played with Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson and Derek Trucks among others. The slide guitar wizard will likely bring tunes from his recent acoustic effort Recorded Live in LafayetteDetails here.

Cory Henry and the Funk Aposles Tuesday at Fete (Providence)

Newport Jazz Festival Alum Corey Henry is bringing his band The Funk Apostles to Fete Tuesday October 23rd. The band blends old school bass heavy funk with uplifting modern sounds – check out the Tiny Desk show below to see what we mean We know of no other way to spend a Tuesday night in late October! Arlo Guthrie Wednesday at the Greenwich Odeum (East Greenwich)

We previewed Arlo Guthrie’s upcoming show earlier this week where we interviewed his daughter, Sara Lee Guthrie, who is opening the show. The “Alice’s Restaurant” tour hits the Greenwich Odeum on Wednesday October 24th, and promises to be a fun night with one of folk music’s great story-tellers. Late word is that this show is sold out. Local Show of the Week: Day One Fundraiser Thursday at the Dorrance (Providence)

There’s an important fundraiser Thursday night for Day One, RI’s Sexual and Domestic Violence Resource Center. The all-acoustic line up of local artists at The Dorrance includes Mountainess, Bernard John, Allysen Callery, John Faraone, Chrissy Stewart, David Alves, Ashley Bendiksen and Michael Graham Adamowicz.
