A enthusiastic crowd warmly greeted a couple of Newport Folk Festival favorites on the coldest night of the fall season so far. Nicole Atkins and the Wood Brothers responded in kind on the final night of their tour, pleasing fans with their hits, some deep cuts and a couple of covers.
Both acts appeared at the 2018 Folk Festival, and the show Saturday night at The Strand gave them a chance to really stretch things out. Atkins played solo guitar “doing my songs country style,” she explained. She belted out several from her recent album Goodnight Rhonda Lee and won over many new fans the audience.
The Wood Brothers powered their way through a set of tunes that spanned their career. Dedicated fans sang along to favorites like “I Got Loaded,” “The Muse” and Chocolate Got My Tongue.” WhatsUpRI was there and shares a few photos of the evening.
