The Smithereens Saturday at the Greenwich Odeum (East Greenwich)

We interview Dennis Diken of the Smithereens earlier this week here. After the loss of guitarist/songwriter Pat Dinizio, the New Jersey based power rock band continues to play great shows behind guest vocalist Marshall Crenshaw, who will front the band Saturday along with Ted Leo, who will also sit in with the band. Check out the interview and find ticket and more details here.

Grand Funk and Foghat at Twin River

It doesn’t get more “arena rock” than Saturday night at Twin River when Grand Funk Railroad and Foghat play. Straight out of Flint, Michigan, Grand Funk Railroad took the AM airways by storm with hits like “I’m Your Captain” and “We’re an American Band.” Foghat’s “Slow Ride,” with its thumping opening riff, is a sports anthem staple. Details on the Twin River show here.

Debra Mann Saturday at Chans (Woonsocket)

Local jazz great Debra Mann will bring her Joni Mitchell show to Chan’s Friday night. Mann released Full Circle, a collection of Mitchell tunes, earlier this year and will play the show Friday with Dino Govoni on sax and flute, Jay Azzolina on guitar, Dave Zinno on bass and Vinny Pagano on drums. Details here.

Local Show of the Week: Northeast Traffic, The Z-Boys, and Lee Ross Friday at Fete (Providence). High energy rock and roll. Details here.

Newpoli Saturday at the Blackstone River Theatre (Cumberland) – Southern Italian folk music. Details here.
