Six Picks: The Best in Local Music This Week (Jan. 11 – Jan. 17)

Tribute bands honor the music of the legends with superb musicianship and high level performances, often selling out large halls. This week on “Six Picks,” we highlight a couple of shows that pay tribute to some of the greats.

1964, Beatles Tribute Band Saturday at Stadium Theatre (Woonsocket)

The Beatles were probably the first classic rock act to have a touring tribute band, going all the way back to the 1970’s with the Beatlemania craze. Saturday night in Woonsocket, check out 1964 The Tribute, heralded as the “best Beatles tribute on earth” by Rolling Stone. The band specializes in pre-Sgt. Doors and Van Halen Tributes at Courthouse Center (West Kingston)

The Courthouse Center for the Arts has a busy weekend with two great tribute acts scheduled. Friday, things come Completely Unchained, with a leading Van Halen tribute and Saturday night, enter Through the Doors, and check out the veteran Doors tribute. Fellswater Saturday at Blackstone River Theatre (Cumberland)

One of the finest regional Celtic bands around, Fellswater returns the Blackstone River Theatre to open the 2019 season at the states’ premiere venue for world music. The Boston-based band plays a range of Celtic music incorporating the sounds of Ireland, Scotland Brittany and Canada. Details here.

Beaver Brown Saturday at The Met (Pawtucket)

Head over to the “Dark Side” for a full night of music from RI Music Hall of Fame band Beaver Brown. If you’re not in the know, John Cafferty and the band were the hottest thing on the East Coast in the late 70’s and 80’s, playing bars and halls to enthusiastic fans.
