Providence native and Grammy-nominated singer Jeffrey Osborne presented local non-profits with the funds raised through his 2018 Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic, which took place July 29-31 2018, at an event held at The Met School in Providence on February 7. Since its inception in 2012, the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic has raised $1,000,000 for local non-profits that are dedicated to providing services and safe, enriching environments for families and children in need, and those supporting a continued push for access to music and arts for children.
“Truly the most rewarded part of the Classic is the day when I am able to provide the funds raised to these vital Providence charities,” Osborne said in a prepared statement. “It’s the heart of our mission to improve the lives of those around us.”
More than $60,000 was distributed among the Rhode Island organizations, which include The Amos House, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, The Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, The Met School, St. Mary’s Home for Children, Button Hole Golf, and Barros Center for the Arts, College Unbound and Holy Family Home for Women and Children.
Osborne also announced that after two years of hosting the Celebrity Classic in Connecticut, he is bringing it back home to Rhode Island. “We absolutely appreciate our amazing Connecticut hosts, Foxwoods Resort and Casino, but we felt something was missing. Our hearts are in Rhode Island, so we are thrilled to bring the Classic back to my home state,” Osborne said.
The primary mission of the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic is to benefit non-profit organizations who support a continued push for music and the arts to children and their families, as well as those who provide a safe-haven for families in need. To date, the events have provided more than $1,000,000 to Rhode Island and Connecticut non-profits that represent the organization’s mission.
