URI Guitar Festival at Pump House and URI (Kingston)

WhatsUpRI is pleased to co-sponsor the URI Guitar Festival this weekend. With concerts, classes and lectures starting Friday, the 4th annual classical guitar fest is becoming a major event on the state arts scene. Tavares Friday at the Stadium Theatre (Woonsocket)

RI Music Hall of Fame inductees and Fox Point PVD legends Tavares are playing the Stadium Theatre Friday night. The band struck gold in the late 70’s when their songs were included on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, the album among the best-selling releases of all time. Songs like “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel,” “More Than A Woman,” and “It Only Takes A Minute” were #1 hits and remain bonna fide Disco/R&B classics! Details here.

Amy Helm Friday at Knickerbocker Café (Westerly)

Secret Sisters Saturday at the Narrow Center (Fall River)

The Secret Sisters are a band from Nashville with harmonies that can only be described as heavenly. The Grammy nominated duo of Laura Rogers and Lydia (Rogers) Slagle play the Narrows Center on Saturday night. Check out their sweet sounds below and then head to the Narrows. Blues All Weekend at Chan’s (Woonsocket)

The best venue for jazz and blues in the state is Chan’s in Woonsocket. Friday night, Chan’s welcome Eliza Neals, an up and coming Detroit based Rock/Blues artist. Saturday, check out New Orleans based harmonica genius Jason Ricci and the Bad Kind. Blues all night long. Details here.

Local Show of the Week: Michelle Cruz Trio Saturday at Nico Bella’s (Providence)

Michelle Cruz is a Providence based singer-songwriter who performs everything from folk to jazz. Saturday night, in honor of Jazz History Month, she and her band will be presenting “Nat King Cole at 100,” a tribute to the legendary singer. You can’t go wrong. Details here.
