Local Show of the Week: PVD Folk Festival Fundraiser Friday at Galactic Theatre (Warren)

Friday night, get out and support the good folks at the Providence Folk Festival. The Festival is holding a fundraiser at the Galactic Theatre in Warren to support this summer’s event planned for August 25. Additional support is needed this year, as the concert has been re-located to Rose Larissa Park in East Providence. Several top singer-songwriters play the benefit Friday including John Fuzek, Lisa Coutu, Allysen Callery and Mountainess. Details here.

Jeffrey Osborne Thursday at Park Theatre (Cranston)

RI native and R&B great Jeffrey Osborne returns to town Thursday for an evening of song at the Park Theatre in Cranston. Osborne started his career in the 1970’s as lead singer of L.T.D. and later recorded such hits as “On the Wings of Love” and “Stay with Me Tonight” as a solo artist. Thursday is his first RI performance in six years. Details here.

Billy Gilman Friday at Greenwich Odeum (East Greenwich)

RI native and recent finalist on NBC’s The Voice, Billy Gilman brings his “Just you- Just Me – The Intimate Sessions,” show to his hometown venue, The Greenwich Odeum. After a notable career as a child star, when he was the youngest singer to ever reach #1 on the Billboard Album charts, Gilman re-emerged on the national scene in 2018 with his 2nd place finish on The Voice. Greg Abate Saturday (June 1) at Chan’s (Woonsocket)

Internationally touring jazz Saxophonist Greg Abate plays a hometown CD release show Saturday at Chan’s. The Woonsocket native is celebrating the release of his latest album, Gratitude, recorded at the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford last year. He’ll be joined by the Tim Ray Trio, who backed him on the album. Details here.

Fesitval of the Week: Hope Street Spring Block Party Saturday (Providence)

Festival season has arrived, and this week we recommend the Hope Street Block Party which includes all kinds of events from wrestling to rock climbing. Music will be provided by many of the state’s best bands including Extraordinary Rendition Band, Ravi Shavi, The Autocrats and the first ever Accordion Wars … Juxo vs. Klem. Indie Band Showcase Sunday at Askew (Providence)
