Six Picks: The Best in Local Music This Week (June 14 – June 20)

A week before summer officially arrives means the music scene is heating up. Check out some cool summer shows below!

Droneflower Friday at Columbus Theatre (Providence)

Our “Indie band” pick of the week is Droneflower, a duo comprised of Boston-based singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler and Allentown, PA native Steve Brodsky. Their new collaborative (and album) Droneflower has gotten rave reviews including a video premiere in Rolling Stone (see below). D.U.M.E., a project of local musician Alec K Redfearn, opens. Erin Costello and Matt Andersen Friday at Narrows Center (Fall River)

We welcome a pair of artists from north of the border Friday to the Narrows Center. Matt Andersen is a rock/folk/blues singer-songwriter from New Brunswick who just released the soulful new album Halfway Home by Morning. Erin Costelo, who we interviewed here, is an exceptional Americana singer, songwriter, and producer who released the acclaimed Sweet Marie in 2018. Details here.

Sarah Potenza Saturday at Chan’s (Woonsocket)

National recording artist, local hero, and lately, fashion diva Sarah Potenza returns to town for a hometown show at Chan’s Saturday night. The NBC’s The Voice star is touring behind her acclaimed new release Road to Rome, an album of beauty and empowerment. She’s playing two shows at Chan’s Saturday, at 8PM and 10PM. Details here.

Dopey Lopes Saturday at Diego’s (Middletown)

Head out to Diegos in Middletown Saturday night for a rock show with the Dopey Lopes Up All Night band. Lopes has been a presence on the local scene since the late 80’s and brings a powerful show of punk inspired originals. Read our interview with Dopey here for the full story. Summer Festival of the Week: Blackstone River Solstice Festival Saturday (Cumberland)

The 9th annual Blackstone River Theater Solstice Festival gets underway Saturday at 11AM at the Diamond Hill Park, off Route 114 in Cumberland. The annual festival is a smorgasbord of folk, roots, world music and more and includes internationally known performers Kevin Crawford, The Gnomes and Atwater-Donnelly Trio. Garden Grove Music Festival Saturday at Bold Point Park (East Providence)

Groove to the beat of the Garden Grove Festival all day and night Saturday at Bold Point Park right across the river in East Providence. Jam with over a dozen bands including The Wailers, Badfish, Twiddle and The Ravers. A full day of fun! Details here.
