Many musicians in and around RI have released new albums in recent months and What’sUpRI has the links to the music below. With declining CD sales, many independent artists rely on concerts, vinyl, digital and CD sales to help pay the bills, and in some cases, to just break even.
Below are some of our favorites – to be updated throughout the holiday season!
Local Record Labels
The Ocean State is home to recording studios, producers, engineers, and record labels. A couple of top independent labels have listings for many talented local artists.
Rocktorium Records has releases from a diverse stable of local artists including The Copacetics and The Z Boys. CLICK HERE for their web site.
75 or Less Records is another fine local label with artists from pop to punk. Bands include Tall Teenagers, Bill Keough, Jets Can’t Land and The Low Cards. CLICK HERE for details.
In addition to the links below, it’s always a good idea to check for discounts are your local record store. One RI mainstay “In Your Ear” Records in Warren has a special event scheduled for Small Business Saturday (11-24) with big discounts on vinyl and more plus live music throughout the day. A holiday “Music Merch and Pop Up Sale” is happening December 1 in Providence with sets and merch from local artists including Jenn Lombardi, Jacob Haller, Kate Mick, Nate Cozzolino, Kris Hansen, Pete Vendettuoli, Tracie Potochnik and more. The event is at 12 Observatory Ave in PVD. Details here.

New London, CT based singer-songwriter Daphne Martin recently released a intensely heartfelt collection of new songs, Scared Fearless. Check it out here and catch her on the road soon!

Celebrate Joni Mitchell’s 75th
RI jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, and arranger Debra Mann released Full Circle, a brilliant collection of jazzed up Joni Mitchell tunes earlier this year – buy it here.
Meanwhile Arc Iris totally reimagined Joni’s classic “Blue” last year – still available here.
Eric and the Nothing
We’re big fans of Eric and the Nothing’s new album, a compelling garage rock release influenced by pretty much everything from the 1950’s on. Buy it here and see the band out and about soon!
Indie duo O.B. Howard has a delightful new release, South of Our House, available on digital here.
