Since 2016, Planet Fitness has aimed to spread kindness, end bullying, and support youth who attend area Boys & Girls Clubs and according to Planet Fitness, 2018 proved one of the highest-impact years for the local franchisees of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.
Planet Fitness is a partner of Boys & Girls Clubs of America(BGCA) as part of the brand’s national philanthropic initiative, The Judgement Free Generation®.
“The 20 Planet Fitness locations throughout Rhode Island and Southeastern Mass. continue to have a passion for giving back to the initiative locally, and made a significant impact on area Boys & Girls Clubs in 2018,” a press release from Planet Fitness states.
“Franchisee teams Steve Eddleston and Jessica Miller and Steve and Anne Marie Lukin aim to create safe, judgement-free cultures within their Planet Fitness gyms and work to extend the same philosophy to the communities they serve. The young members of the local Boys & Girls Club locations remain the foundation of the franchisees’ pro-kindness mission, and together through monetary, in-club, and member donations, the teams raised over $10,500 in 2018 in support of area clubs”.
In addition to financial assistance, Planet Fitness says the groups hosted a number of seasonal initiatives throughout the year, including:
- Annual Holiday Giving Trees in December resulting in nearly 500 donated gifts
- Annual Winter Coat Drive in November resulting in more than 300 donated children’s coats
- Two Soilless Flower and Vegetable Garden Donations in June
- In-kind infrastructure donations including lockers, TVs, and flooring
- Game Day at Pawtucket Red Sox in August welcoming 130 members and staff
The partnership includes Boys & Girls Club sites in East Providence, Newport County, Northern Rhode Island (Cumberland/Lincoln and Woonsocket), Pawtucket, Providence, Warwick, Fall River, Mass., and Greater New Bedford/Wareham, Mass.
“We are very proud to support Boys & Girls Clubs in the communities of all of our Planet Fitness locations in Rhode Island and Southeastern Mass,” said Planet Fitness Franchisee Steve Eddleston in a prepared statement. “We look forward to continuing our partnership in 2019 and supporting the clubs and all that they do to help young people learn and succeed.”
“We are honored to assist our local Boys & Girls Clubs,” said Planet Fitness Franchisee Steve Lukin in a prepared statement. “We have so much respect for the organization and its efforts for kids and teens, and being able to support them through our initiatives this past year has been incredibly rewarding.”
