Legendary singer-songwriter Jim Messina performed before a sellout crowd at The Narrows Center on Friday. Messina, whose impressive resume includes stints with seminal bands Buffalo Springfield, Poco, and Loggins and Messina, charmed the audience with his melodic voice and jocular tales.
Backed by a tight four-piece band, Messina’s voice was as solid as ever. He masterfully filled the evening with excellent interpretations of mostly Loggins and Messina material (with a couple of Poco and Buffalo Springfield tunes sprinkled in).
With a career spanning over fifty years, Messina played favorites such as “Danny’s Song,” and “House at Pooh Corner,” finishing with Loggins and Messina’s smash hit “Your Mama Don’t Dance.”
What’s Up Rhode Island was there to capture a night of beautiful folk, country, and soft rock music performed by an icon.
