After nine years as one of Newport’s most popular cafe’s and bakeries, Rosemary & Thyme will permanently close in August.
The decision to close was not an easy one for Anna & Matthew Tscheulin, Owners of Rosemary & Thyme. But, it was a necessary one.
“We have made the very difficult decision to permanently close based on some ongoing serious health concerns that I’m dealing with,” Matthew Tscheulin, who is also the head chef and baker, told What’sUpNewp when we sat down with him earlier today.
Tscheulin confirmed these health concerns are the reason they had to permanently close Rustica, their sister restaurant, last year.
“As much as I love this business, doing what I do, and our loyal customers, the hours and commitment required to run this business are not currently the best thing for my health right now”, Tscheulin said.
Rosemary & Thyme will close sometime in early August, it is day to day so watch their Facebook Page for updates. Their hours until then are 8 am to 2 pm Wednesday thru Saturday and 8 am to 11:30 am on Sunday.
“We can’t thank Newport and our customers enough for their ongoing support, love, and business over the last nine years, we are really going to miss them”, Tscheulin said.
Tscheulin knows that customers will be concerned about the reasoning for their closing, but assures us that these changes will help with what’s going on, that he’ll be OK, and asks for customers to please respect his privacy regarding his health at this time.
We wish Matt and Anna the very best moving forward and thank them for their delicious and passionate contribution to our city over the last nine years.
