NOTE: (The author is a lifelong Beach Boys fan who decided to have a little fun with this show recap. He reminds you to “Be True to Your School.”)

We hope you’ve been getting out and having fun “All Summer Long.” It was certainly “Fun, Fun, Fun” at the Beach Boys show Friday night August 16th at Bold Point Park in East Providence.

“I Get Around” to a lot of concerts and I can certainly attest to the fact that there are a lot of great vibes, “Good Vibrations” as it may be, at Beach Boys shows. The band, led by original member Mike Love, is always solid, playing the hits and more, “In My Room” or in the “California Sun.” They sound “So Good to Me.”

The band took the stage just before sunset, and included the nightly shout out to Mike Love’s “Pisces Brother,” George Harrison, while singing a re-arranged “Here Comes the Sun” as a tribute.

You wouldn’t have been “California Dreamin,” (yes the Mamas and Papas tune) if you enjoyed a “Dance, Dance, Dance,” or two. You might ask “Barbara Ann,” “Do You Wanna Dance?” If she refuses, “Don’t Worry Baby,” there’s still a lot of great “Rock and Roll Music” (Chuck Berry) to be heard!

East Providence might not be “Kokomo” – the shoreline at the head of Narragansett Bay is probably more like “Rockaway Beach” (yup, the Ramones original). Still, there’s more than enough ocean access to “Sail On, Sailor” on the “Sloop John B.” Who knows? You may end up on a “Surfin’ Safari.”

We saw “Disney Girls,” “California Girls,” “Pisces Brothers,” and “Surfer Girls” at the show. (Not to mention East Coast girls.) “It’s OK” that they sing the same songs night after night, touring the world year-round, in their “409,” their “Little Deuce Coupe,” or their “Little Honda.” “Help Me Rhonda” to understand that.

So, if the “Summertime Blues” are still getting to you, “Catch a Wave” and head out to see this legendary band as soon as you can. “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” if we didn’t have to wait so long to see them again. “God Only Knows” when they’ll be back. Well worth the price of admission, I’d certainly “Do it Again.” 😉
