Rock and Roll reigns supreme around Rhode Island this weekend. We’re covering some fun summer festivals and a legendary star playing Bold Point Park Friday. Here are “Six Picks,” some of the best in area music this weekend.
John Fogerty Friday at Bold Point Park (East Providence)
The founder of the legendary 60’s band Creedence Clearwater Revival is playing Bold Point tonight. John Fogerty has built a solid solo career since the Creedence days (think “Centerfield”), but is perhaps still remembered best for hits like “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” He’ll be playing those and more Friday. Tickets available here.
RI Bluesfest Saturday and Sunday at Mulligan’s Island (Cranston)
The RI Bluesfest returns to Mulligan’s Island this weekend with an impressive line up of local and regional blues and blues-rock acts. Check out Lois Greco Band (Sat), The Silks (Sun), and the Heidi Nirk Band (Sat). Best of all, admission is FREE. Food, drink, mini-golf and batting cages all available. Click here for details.
Sarah Borges Friday at River Island Park (Woonsocket)
Taunton, MA native Sarah Borges knows how to rock and roll. She’s a compelling songwriter and leads a tight band barnstorming all over the northeast. She’s appearing Friday as part of the FREE Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series at River Island Park. The event includes kids activities, local food trucks, and an on-site bar. Complete details here.
RI Festival Honoring Les Paul Friday at the Parlor (Newport)
One of the more unique festivals this weekend is happening Friday night in Newport. The 2nd annual “RI Festival Honoring Les Paul” includes a petting zoo of sorts … you can try vintage Les Paul guitars while at the show. The music includes some of the best around – Dopey Lopes, The Dirty 5, The Debutantes, Bird and Horse, The BickerSins, Luis Mateos – Solo Cash, plus special guest The Rockingham Express featuring Rick Santos and Johnny Edwards. Even better, all proceeds benefit RI music legend Mark Cutler. Complete details here.
