A special night of music took place at the Columbus Theatre the night after Valentine’s Day when over twenty of RI’s best artists played the annual “Love Hangover.” Organized by Jen Long and deliciously hosted by Ricky Rainbow Beard and Reba Mitchell, the show benefited a pair of worthy causes, RIOT (formerly Girls Rock RI) and One Gun Gone.
There was everything from folk to rock, R&B to jazz … and the artists spanned generations of RI musicians. RIOT veteran Maddie Wood opened the show, followed by her father, Cliff Wood. Twin Goat, another family act, featured daughter Amelia Ross singing “Angie,” a love song her father Ian Ross wrote for her mother Nicole Legace. Jane Hesser & Rachel Blumberg killed it on Springsteen’s “Tougher Than the Rest.”
The mother/daughter duo of Ava & Allysen Callery harmonized beautifully on Buddy Holly’s “Words of Love,” followed by an inspired performance from Medusa Black. Equally compelling were songs from The Mericans, Steve Allain & Jodie Treloar Sampson, and Anthony Loffredio & Jodie Treloar Sampson.
Boo City had the audience spellbound and Silverteeth covered Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” gracefully. We were there for most of the show and share a few pictures from WhatsUp Photographer Rick Farrell.
